Geo-fencing Your Friends with iPhone

Specify the certain area and let your friends or relatives know where you are now with the new geo-based iPhone app! Get to know close people location to be closer!

Find My Friends, a location-sharing app for iPhones, which saw the world in October 2011, will be upgraded with new features this fall, along with the long-awaited iOS 6.

Find My Friends will have a new geo-fencing feature, which means that you will be able to specify a certain area around yourself, and your friends or family will get notifications when you leave this area or arrive there.

The app was first designed for close friends or family members tracing each other’s whereabouts. You could know when your spouse has left work, in order to meet them or to prepare a surprise dinner. Find My Friends has also been popular among parents who wanted to control their children’s arrival at school. The app can be also useful for finding your missing Apple device. Now it can be used in companies to track the time of employers’ arrival at the office or even the time of their leaving home.

As for the privacy issues, in Find My Friends you can enable notifications only for a particular time interval. For example, if you do not want to let a lot of people know about your spending the afterwork time, you can disable the app from sending notifications starting from 18 pm or any other time. It seems that the option of choosing friends for sharing location with still won’t be there.

The new version of the app will contain the Apple’s Maps app and won’t be using Google Maps any more.
